Emergency Response

When a substation goes down, the right phone call gets you a real engineer — not a queue. Southern Switch & Contacts maintains 24/7 availability for utility emergencies, with same-day or next-day field dispatch depending on crew availability and travel distance. We carry the contacts, the test equipment, and the in-house machining capability to make parts on the fly when an OEM is no longer an option.

What we test
  • Phone triage with a Southern Switch engineer
  • Remote review of trip records, relay events, photos
  • Field dispatch — crews mobilized from Palm Harbor, FL
  • On-site assessment, isolation, and switching support
  • Temporary repairs and reverse-engineered replacement parts when discontinued
  • Post-event documentation and follow-up rebuild scope
Standards we follow

NFPA 70E (electrical safety in the workplace) · IEEE C2 (National Electrical Safety Code) · utility-specific lockout / tagout and switching procedures

Apparatus covered

Substation transformers, oil & vacuum circuit breakers, switchgear, voltage regulators, reclosers, disconnect switches, and the controls/relays that go with them.

Reports you get

Every visit ends with a documented report: raw test data, calibrated instrument records, anomaly findings with severity ranking, photos, and a clear recommended-action list. Trends are tracked across visits.
