The work we do
for real utilities.
Documented projects from both sides of the operation — machine shop fabrication jobs and field services deployments. Named utilities, real scope, actual outcomes. No stock photos.
TECO 230 kV autotransformer failed at peak load. Southern Switch mobilized next day — crane, removal, spare from Polk Plant, installation, and apparatus testing.
TECO downtown Tampa OCB replaced with SF6. Southern Switch handled removal, installation, and P&C cabling. Partner Sigma C performed protection relay testing.
Four TECO transformers elevated onto flood-hardened platforms at MacDill AFB. Southern Switch handled crane coordination, platform setting, and apparatus testing.
Duke Energy 500 kV pantograph jaw burned through on lightning. Southern Switch machined a new jaw from billet, fabricated contacts, and rebuilt all three phases.
2,500 ft of Duke Anclote generator bus stripped, silver-replated on aluminum, and re-insulated with Raychem. Completed in a two-week plant outage.
ConEd disconnect switch feeding Arthur Ashe Stadium — solder repairs had failed repeatedly. Southern Switch refurbished with silver inserts in under 24 hours.
BG&E’s Southern States EV1 had a sheared operating shaft. Southern Switch machined a new arm from billet aluminum and refurbished the full switch set.
Full teardown, inspection, manifold fabrication, and reseal of an ABB 550 kV hydraulic operating mechanism. Discontinued parts machined from billet in-house.
A cast operating-mechanism part on a Siemens SF6 breaker failed in service. We reverse-engineered it from a sample, machined a stronger billet replacement, and returned the unit to service.
Seized Southern States EV2 rotating switch bearings rebuilt with stainless shafts, brass lock nuts, and Viton seals — a field-proven upgrade over the original design.
